About Inphasol

At Inphasol, we are pushing the boundaries of what bacteriophage, or phage, can do for human health, agriculture, and industrial applications by developing next generation phage technologies. As a spinout of Texas A&M's Center for Phage Technology, we are utilizing decades of basic and applied research to harness the untapped potential of phages and utilize them for applications well beyond traditional phage therapy. Our flagship platform for protein delivery, PIPER, transforms live bacteria into powerful cell factories capable of targeted in situ synthesis and delivery of an expanded range of therapeutic proteins.

Problem statement

Our flagship platform for protein delivery PIPER seeks to solve critical bottlenecks in therapeutic protein delivery and industrial recombinant protein production. The therapeutic protein and peptide market is growing rapidly with novel therapeutic peptides being developed and discovered each day. However, existing and novel protein therapeutics suffer from poor bioavailability, poor stability, and expensive manufacturing and purification processes. By allowing colonizing probiotic cell factories to express therapeutics past biologic barriers to delivery, efficacy and cost of protein therapeutics can be drastically improved. Our initial de-risking pipeline focuses on continuous expression of GLP-1 in the intestine for a low-cost approach for obesity and diabetes treatment.

Traction information

We have received interest in our technology from Novo Nordisk, which has provided critical insights on our upcoming preclinical studies for GLP-1 delivery in a mouse model of obesity. For our microbiome modulation pipeline targeted at reducing key hydrogen sulfide producers in the intestine we have received a Phase I SBIR. Our application for inhibition of wine spoilage is generating proof-of-concept data in partnership with local and international wineries in the historic Livermore Valley region of California. We have also received financial support and counsel from Texas A&M Innovation.
